When it comes to unique concert events in Alexandria this summer the wheel is officially turning and it can’t slow down. On Saturday, August 4th, critically acclaimed Alexandria acoustic jam band, the Free Flowing Musical Experience, is teaming up with the legendary DC-based Grateful Dead tribute band, On the Bus, for a Grateful Dead concert re-creation at Alexandria’s Carlyle Club.
The event titled, Gar-C-Ya-In Alexandria, is being organized and sponsored by AlexandriaLive.com and Alexandria Cryptozoology and Paranormal Society, and will commemorate the birthday of late Grateful Dead guitarist, Jerry Garcia. The concert will feature 4 1/2 hours of live music by two of the area’s best jam bands, unique Grateful Dead show themed food items and specialty drinks, a vending scene, and even an outdoor Shakedown Street styled pre-show party. Event organizers are calling it Northern Virginia’s largest ever Jerry Garcia Birthday celebration.
This is the sixth installment of the event and has been building and growing over the years. Because of increasing demand, the event is being held at Carlyle Club, Alexandria’s finest music and dinner venue.
Said Free Flowing Musical Experience lead guitarist Gregg Park, “This isn’t just a couple of local bands playing Dead covers at a club, this is made to be an amazing concert event in the tradition of the old Bill Graham styled Fillmore shows of the late ‘60’s and early 70’s. We’re working to leave no stone uncovered in terms of attendee experience.”
Tickets to the event include VIP and General Admission packages and can be purchased online through the link on our events calendar. Event hotel accommodations are to be announced soon.
Added Park, “Having the event at the Carlyle Club elevates the show to a whole other level. With The Carlyle Club, vending, a pre-show Shake Down Street area, it really adds to the excitement and anticipation of seeing two outstanding bands perform.”
Free Flowing Musical Experience, opens the show with a full set. On the Bus closes things out with two full sets. Both bands will let Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia songs fill the air.
Added Park, “This is going to be a great night for everyone involved.”
