On Inauguration Day, the free King Street Trolley that runs from the King Street Metrorail station to the City’s Waterfront in Old Town Alexandria will be operating on extended hours, running from 5 a.m. to midnight. The trolley will provide residents and visitors with more options for traveling to and from the King Street Metrorail station, to Inauguration activities, shopping and dining. The Trolley also provides access to the Alexandria City Marina for individuals who have booked passage to Washington, D.C. on the Inaugural Water Taxi.
Because the 300 block of King Street will be closed for an extended time on Inauguration Day, there will be two temporary trolley stops at two locations; one at King Street and North Fairfax Street, and another at North Royal Street and King Street. On January 20, from 10 a.m. until the time King Street is reopened, trolleys traveling westbound on King Street from the unit block will turn right onto North Fairfax Street, left onto Cameron Street, left onto North Royal Street and then right onto King Street. Trolleys traveling eastbound on King Street from the Metrorail station will proceed down King Street and will turn right onto South Royal Street, left onto Prince Street, left onto South Fairfax Street and then make a right onto King Street.
From January 15 to 20, trolley drivers have been instructed to let passengers on and off at the King Street and North Fairfax Street temporary stop. The stop on Royal Street will only be in service on Inauguration Day while the 300 block of King Street is closed.
