Neighborhood Update – Moes Southwest Grill

Several people have emailed me wanting to know what is going on with the Moe’s Southwest Grill restaurant that was supposed to go in the location next door to Brueggers in our neighborhood. Most of the emails relate to the lack of ‘sit-down’ restaurants in the Carlyle neighborhood.

After speaking to City staff and other sources, I have found out that the SUP for Moe’s that passed the Planning Commission on December 4, 2007 and passed the City Council on december 15, 2007, expires on June 15, 2009. That means that Moes has until June 15, 2009 to start construction on their space.

Other sources have told us that the possible reason for the delay is that Moes and the owners of the Carlyle Square Condominium retail spaces have yet to agree on a lease. You can view the SUP in the viewer below:

Ugh…. another Mexican restaurant?? Don’t we have California Tortilla and Baja Fresh? Enough with these “lunch” type places catering to the office environment and the PTO. What about the people who live here and are around after 5 pm?

What’s wrong with Carlyle that it can’t attract more restaurants (and shopping) to the area? We have the potential to be another Ballston, Shirlington, Pentagon City. Why do I have to get in my car to go to a nice sit down dinner or do some shopping?
