Planning to travel into Maryland on the Red line over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend? Metro has announced the they will be closing the Grovesnor-Strathmore station that weekend for much needed track work.
Metro will be closing down Grosvenor-Strathmore station Martin Luther King weekend for a major track rehabilitation and rebuilding project on the Red Line between the White Flint and Medical Center stations.
The station will be closed starting at 10 p.m. Friday January 15th until closing Monday January 18th. Normal service will resume for Tuesday morning rush hour.
Metro will provide shuttle buses between the White Flint and Medical Center stations to help riders get around the work zone.
During the weekend construction project Metro will rebuild the trackbed, which means workers will install 1,400 feet of new rail, 310 new ties, 200 new tons of ballast, 300 new track fasteners, 600 new anchor bolts, repair 200 feet of grout pads on the aerial structure, and make track circuit upgrades.
Metro plans to operate every 6 minutes during the day on Saturday and every 8 minutes on Sunday and Monday. After 930pm on all days trains will run every 15 minutes.
