Carlyle Community Council Meeting Notice

This is a notice to all residents and business owners in Carlyle.

The first meeting of the ‘new’ Carlyle Community Council (CCC) will be on April 21, 2010 at 12 noon at Carlyle Towers in their meeting room. The meeting room (Carlyle Room) is located on the 4th floor of the Carlyle Towers South building located at 2151 Jamieson Ave. Formal notices regarding this meeting are being sent to all residential associations and building owners in Carlyle. Yours truly will be at the meeting and the Council encourages residents and business owners to attend.

As we have mentioned elsewhere on this blog, the Council was previously more of an ‘absentee’ council until most if not all of the land in Carlyle was under development and John Carlyle Square Park and the Dog Park were completed. That milestone was reached last fall. In November, ballots went out for nominations to all residential associations and building owners in Carlyle to nominate folks for the Board of Directors. In December, votes were cast by the same residential associations and building owners based on those nominations. Four ‘Class A’ (Business) Directors were chosen as well as Three ‘Class B’ (Residents) Directors.

So what is the Carlyle Community Council you might ask?

In plain terms, the Council is an Association of Associations. If you are a resident in Carlyle, you are part of a Home Owners Association (HOA). One of the chief responsibilities of that Association is to maintain the common areas. Same is true for the Council. Like an HOA, the  CCC is an Association which is a not-for-profit organization of owners formed for the purpose of maintaining the common areas.

Some of the items the Council takes care of on a daily basis are:

  • Trash removal – Did you know there are 42 trash cans in Carlyle that get emptied regularly?
  • Grounds maintenance – The folks you see cutting grass and maintaining the landscaping.

At the meeting, the newly formed Council will be voting on officers (President, VP, Treasurer & Secretary), approving landscaping contracts, and will be discussing a variety of new business items. Hope to see you there!

Is there a reason that this is being held at Noon at not at a later time?

Hi JP –

I believe it is because several of the directors work in Carlyle and a few are retired. For those that work in Carlyle, traffic (P.M. rush hour) may have played a part in the decision. The time may change for future meetings. I do know the annual meeting, later in the year, will be held at a later time.

Any talk of branding – establishing a unique identity for Carlyle that would attract business and entice buyers?

Hi Christine –

Not that I am aware of. Maybe something you could bring up at the meeting?

Love to!

Crystal City has done an impressive job of marketing itself with its “Crystal Green” initiative, which is sort of funny when you think of what Crystal City used to be, a veritable concrete jungle.

I ran across their Web site when I was looking for local runs. They sponsor some very cool 5K Fridays: http://www.crystalcity.org/item/fit-and-fabulous-5k-fridays-return-to-crystal-city

There are other great ideas here for local communities that benefit both residents and businesses. http://www.crystalcity.org/green

I wonder what our theme might be? Architecture? A Village? Music and the Arts? Other ideas?
