Capital Beltway Lane/Ramp Closures Dec 10-12 * MAJOR TRAFFIC IMPACT ALERT *

Capital Beltway Inner Loop I-95/495 South Narrowed and Telegraph Road Interchange Ramp Closures December 10-12;
Telegraph Road North Access Ramp Closed for Two Weeks
Motorists Strongly Urged to STAY AWAY or
Use Alternate Routes to Avoid Significant Delays

Weather permitting, construction activities related to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project will require the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway (I-95/495 South) to be narrowed from the U.S. Route 1 exit to just after Telegraph Road beginning Friday night, December 10 through Sunday afternoon, December 12. Note that this previously-announced work has been postponed by one week due to recent weather delays. Major traffic impacts are expected and motorists should choose alternate routes to avoid significant delays.

At 9 p.m. on Friday, December 10, one of the two THRU lanes and one of the two LOCAL lanes in this area will be closed, leaving one THRU and one LOCAL lane open. A total of two lanes will remain open throughout the weekend; motorists should be advised that the LOCAL lane is available to them. There also will be related ramp closures during this time:

  • The Inner Loop exit for Telegraph Road South will close.
    • Detour: Motorists should exit at U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South.
  • The Telegraph Road South on-ramp to the Inner Loop will close.
    • Detour: Motorists should take Mill Road to right on Stovall Street to right on Eisenhower Avenue to the Eisenhower Connector on-ramp to the Inner Loop.

The Inner Loop exit for Telegraph Road North and Pershing Avenue will remain open. All Inner Loop lanes and the ramps listed above will be fully reopened Sunday afternoon.

There is one additional longer-term ramp closure: the on-ramp from Telegraph Road North to the Inner Loop will close the night of December 10 and remain completely closed for approximately two weeks to allow interchange bridge work. Motorists will be alerted with variable message signs and other signs in the Telegraph Road corridor with the designated detour: from northbound Telegraph Road, take the new access ramp to Eisenhower Avenue. Turn left on Eisenhower Avenue and proceed west to the Eisenhower Connector to access the Inner Loop.

Motorists are strongly urged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays during this scheduled work as backups may be significant. Please use caution when traveling in this area. All construction-related work and dates are subject to change, depending on weather, material and contractor availability or other unforeseen conditions.
