The Derecho One Year Later – Your Stories

It is quite a historic day in Virginia. Today is the day that Virginia declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776. Today is also the anniversary of the 2012 derecho storm that knocked out power to quite a few people in Alexandria.

Nice article over at NBC Washington on the one year anniversary of the Derecho and has gathered stories from viewers on how they survived. The story on the 50 foot tree will make you gasp. The Washington Post has a great explanation for why storms like that are called a ‘derecho’.
