Your extraordinary house of the day in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia historic district

I have been blogging about some gorgeous homes in the Alexandria Historic District. You can see the first one at this link, a beauty from the 1890s at this linkthis one from the 1830s at this link, thiscraftsman-style beauty from the 1830s near the Historic District/Parker Gray border, another beauty from the 1900s at this link, George Washington’s Tenement House at this link and this Italianate home from 1800.

This home, built in 1840, is noteworthy and bloggable for several reasons. This home was last purchased in 1968 for $67K. Care to take a guess on how much it’s worth today?

First, love the double chimney and the way the roof of the main part of the house is designed (see above).

Next, love the color of the home and how the red shutters blend nicely with the paint. The architectural details around the doorway, the roof, and the windows is fabulous.

Love the back yard here and the huge magnolia tree.
