The National Weather Service Has a Flood Warning in effect until 11:00 AM this morning. This means flooding is happening in places and if you can turn around – don’t drown.

…THE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1100 AM EDT FOR URBAN AREAS AND SMALL STREAMS IN DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA…AND EASTERN FAIRFAX…HOWARD…WESTERN PRINCE GEORGES…CITY OF ALEXANDRIA… CARROLL…ARLINGTON…CITY OF FALLS CHURCH…NORTHWESTERN CHARLES… EASTERN MONTGOMERY AND EAST CENTRAL FREDERICK COUNTIES… AT 812 AM EDT…NUMEROUS ROAD CLOSURES WERE REPORTED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN OF TWO TO FOUR INCHES. STREAMS ARE OUT OF THEIR BANKS AND FLOODING IS ONGOING. RAIN WILL TAPER OFF THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE MORNING…AND FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS SHOULD BEGIN TO SUBSIDE BY LATE MORNING. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN REPORTED. STREAM RISES WILL BE SLOW. HOWEVER…ALL INTERESTED PARTIES SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IMMEDIATELY. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE…TURN AROUND…DONT DROWN.
