Starting July 1, 2014
As part of its adopted FY 2015 Budget, on May 1, the Alexandria City Council approved the extension of parking meter enforcement until 9 p.m. citywide. Council also voted to add metered parking hours in Carlyle on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.
The new hours are intended to promote parking turnover, make on-street spaces available to short-term visitors, encourage long-term parking at off-street facilities and parking garages, and promote the use other modes of transportation such as Metro, DASH, and the free Old Town Trolley. Multi-space meter rates are $1.75 per hour, or $1.25 per hour at single-space meters.
Ask yourself this, if you park on the street already post-5:00 PM in Carlyle and post-7:00 PM in Old town, would you pay $3.50 to park on the street in Old Town or $7 – $10 to park in the garages? In Carlyle, would you pay $7 to park on the street during the extra enforcement or $10-$12 to park in the garages in Carlyle?
I don’t think many would, do you?
The extended hours will begin on July 1. NOTE: Enforcement will begin on July 14.
