The City of Alexandria joined the Capital Bikeshare network some two years ago to smashing results in a pilot program. After all, studies show that economic activity expands around Capital Bikeshare stations. There has been some concern recently over the financial troubles of a key Capital Bikeshare supplier. Those concerns seem to have been addressed.
Now, in 2014, eight (8) more Capital Bikeshare stations will be added in the Del Ray and Carlyle neighborhoods in the coming weeks. Work on the new stations is expected to begin at the end of August and wrap up in early September.
The expansion stations will be at the following locations (see map below):
- Eisenhower Avenue at Mill Race Lane
- Ballenger Avenue at Dulany Street
- Duke Street at John Carlyle Street
- Mount Vernon Avenue at East Nelson Avenue
- Mount Vernon Avenue at East Del Ray Avenue
- Mount Vernon Avenue at Kennedy Street
- Monroe Avenue at Leslie Avenue
- Potomac Greens Drive at Slater’s Lane
If you are unfamiliar with how Capital Bikeshare works, see the video above. If you’re not familiar with the bikesharing ‘explosion’, see this AP report.
