Meet and Greet the New Principal This Thursday
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent Alvin L. Crawley is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher L. Phillips, Ed.D. as lead principal at Jefferson-Houston School.
Phillips joins ACPS from Suffolk, Va. where he served as principal of Oakland and Southwestern Elementary Schools since 2008. Phillips has been a leader in Suffolk Public Schools since 2005.
“Dr. Phillips brings to ACPS extensive leadership experience in school administration and critical teaching experience in the area of math that will be a great benefit to our students as well as a tremendous addition to our administrative team,” Dr. Crawley said.
Prior to serving as principal at Oakland and Southwestern Elementary Schools, Phillips was the assistant principal at King’s Fork Middle School and Booker T. Washington Elementary School respectively in Suffolk. Phillips is committed to school improvement. He coordinated development and implementation of objectives and long-range plans for curriculum and instruction evaluation and improvement at his former schools. He also conducted data and instructional meetings with school personnel and focused on staff development needs. Phillips has experience in developing school improvement plans as a middle school math teacher. He also served as a mentor for new principals and was a member of the textbook adoption committee for the Suffolk school division.
“I am both honored and excited to work with the students, staff and community of Jefferson-Houston to continue to build upon the foundations already present. We have the opportunity to create a shared vision and school culture as we open this year. It is through collaboration with the students, staff, parents and community that we will ensure the success of all students,” said Phillips.
Phillips earned a Doctor of Administration and Supervision and an M. Ed. Master Teacher degree from Regent University. He earned a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies advanced degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University.
