Jefferson-Houston Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia

They have done a great job expanding and designing the new Jefferson-Houston school. What do you think?

I think it’s a pretty poor job of making the school fit into the neighborhood. It’s too big, too long, and too close to the street. It looks more like public housing than the neighborhood it is supposed to fit in.

Currently, it also is a source of major light pollution. Hopefully efforts will be undertaken to plant more trees, turn off the lights at night, and so on. You shouldn’t be able to read on the sidewalk at night.
