Tomorrow is National Blessings in a Backpack Day!
City of Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, Maury Elementary School Principal Lucretia Jackson, and the Maury community will commemorate the kick-off of the Blessings in a Backpack program in Alexandria that will feed 50 Maury students on weekends throughout the school year. Mayor Euille and Ms. Jackson will pack the first bags that will be delivered to students on Friday.
The event kicksoff tomorrow (Thursday, Sept 18, 2014) at 8:15 AM in front of Maury Elementary School.
In June 2014, the United States Conference of Mayors adopted Thursday, September 18, 2014 as “Blessings in a Backpack Day”, whereby mayors across the United States will participate in backpack-stuffing events, and providing food for children in their communities who need it most. In addition, this is a celebration of the first Blessings in a Backpack program in the City of Alexandria. It is expected that the program will grow to other areas throughout the Alexandria where needed.
