Dominion Power Open House Wednesday on New High-Voltage Power Line in Alexandria

As I have told you, Dominion Power is looking to add a new 230kV electric transmission line between its Glebe Substation, located at the intersection of S. Glebe Road and S. Eads Street in Arlington, and Pepco’s Potomac River Substation at the intersection of Slaters Lane and E. Abingdon Drive in the City of Alexandria. The website for Dominion’s project is at this link.

This is needed, according to Dominion, to support reliability needs to local residents and businesses. As Dominion Power has stated, the forecast shows Dominion will be unable to meet reliability needs in our area in 2018 if nothing is changed.

Question is, where would the high-voltage power line go (See map below)? My guess would be Dominion is going to offer going right down Main Line Boulevard in Potomac Yard or Route 1. How does this affect Metroway and Potomac Yard? These are my guesses, what is yours?

Alexandria has put together an ad-hoc working group to help with Alexandria’s response to the Dominion petition which is expected to go before the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) in November.

Dominion is offering the chance for the public to engage with them regarding this proposal on this Wednesday, October 1. They are hosting an informational open house from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mount Vernon Community School, located at 2601 Commonwealth Ave in Alexandria so the public can learn more about the proposed plan. There will be NO formal presentation at the open house but, experts will be on hand to answer your questions.
