The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Alexandria, Virginia and the surrounding area starting at 12:00 AM TONIGHT running through 12:00 PM Sunday, February 15. These are usually issued when wind chills are expected to drop the temperature below zero degrees and an active frostbite condition exists. They are expecting colder conditions than what we got last night (see above).

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO NOON EST SUNDAY. * WIND CHILL...AS LOW AS 15 BELOW. * TEMPERATURES...TEENS TO AROUND 10 ABOVE. * WINDS...NORTHWEST 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH. * IMPACTS...THE COMBINATION OF VERY STRONG WINDS AND COLD TEMPERATURES WILL MAKE FOR DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS THAT COULD CAUSE HYPOTHERMIA AND FROST BITE. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.
