Alexandria Chamber Legislative Breakfast

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce hosted City Council and General Assembly members at their Annual Legislative Breakfast, presented by Dominion Virginia Power, at the Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia today.

Participating in the event from Council were: Mayor Bill Euille, Vice Mayor Allison Silberberg, Council members John Chapman, Del Pepper, Paul Smedberg, and Justin Wilson.  The State delegation was represented by State Senators George Barker, Adam Ebbin, and Delegate Charniele Herring.

The State Delegation discussed the recently concluded General Assembly session, with each representative highlighting what they consider the most significant results from that session.  High on each of their lists was Workforce Development and how it will impact the Northern Virginia region.

Council members cited several issues they felt were significant in the current Council session including the Chamber’s number one legislative priority: the Metro at Potomac Yards.  Members also indicated that parking, the Waterfront, and the development of Landmark Mall are among the most vital issues for Alexandria.

“We are pleased to host an enthusiastic crowd to quiz our elected officials on upcoming challenges in the region.  This event provides a forum for our members to meet directly with their local elected officials and discuss the issues most important to them” stated John Long, President & CEO of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber also announced that it will be holding a mayoral debate in May with the declared mayoral candidates. More information about this debate will be posted on the Chamber’s website at this link.
