Holy Week & Easter Service Schedule at Historic Christ Church in Alexandria

Holy Wk Photo+TypeThe week of March 29 through April 5, 2015, Historic Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia will celebrate Holy Week, including Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter. All are invited to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ to a new awakening. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome at Historic Christ Church.

Historic Christ Church is home to 2,400 parishioners who are a lively, dynamic congregation providing and supporting a variety of programs and ministries in the city of Alexandria and beyond. Christ Church is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia at 118 N. Washington Street. The parish home of George Washington and many other government and legislative leaders since, Historic Christ Church has long been at the center of the religious and public life of the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Nearly all the Presidents have attended Christ Church during their term of office.

Palm Sunday

  • 7:30 a.m. Liturgy of the Palms & Worship with Communion
  • 9:00 a.m. Palm Procession (Market Square) & Liturgy
  • 11:15 a.m. Liturgy of the Palms & Worship with Communion
  • 5:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Palms & Worship with Communion

Monday & Tuesday

  • 7:15 a.m. &12:05 p.m. Worship with Communion (Chapel)

Wednesday

  • 7:15 a.m. &12:05 p.m. Worship with Communion (Chapel)
  • 7:00 p.m. Taizé Service (Auditorium)
    (Taizé is an ecumenical community in France that focuses its ministry on reconciliation with Christ and the world. The community’s life is centered in a specific style of worship and prayer, in many languages, that form the basis of their reflection and action. Visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities visit the community to participate in their life and worship. Taizé worship is quiet and reflective, deeply peaceful and joyful, including four-part harmony chants, silences, prayers, and readings.)

Maundy Thursday

  • 7:15 a.m. &12:05 p.m. Worship with Communion (Chapel)
  • 7:00 p.m. Worship with Communion & Stripping of the Altar
  • 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. All-Night Prayer Vigil (Chapel)

Good Friday

  • 7:15 a.m. Good Friday Service (Chapel)
  • Noon Good Friday Service (Church)
  • Noon to 3:00 p.m. Walk the Labyrinth (Fowler House)
    (The Labyrinth is a medieval Christian practice that provides a guided pattern for walking prayer. It is a metaphor for the spiritual journey; an opportunity for physically guided meditation and a way to deepen and amplify your worship experience wherever you are on your journey of faith. If you long for a moment’s peace and quiet; if you seek an alternative path to prayer and meditation; if you’re curious and seeking, then come and walk with us. Everyone is welcome. The Labyrinth is open and available for people of all ages without regard to religious affiliation.)
  • 7:00 p.m. Service of Lamentation

Holy Saturday

  • 9:00 a.m. to Noon Walk the Labyrinth (Fowler House)
  • 10:00 a.m. Liturgy of the Day (Chapel)
  • 7:00 p.m. Great Vigil of Easter & Holy Baptism

Easter Sunday

  • 7:30 a.m. Worship with Communion *
  • 9:00 a.m. Worship with Communion *
  • 9:00 a.m. Family Easter Service (Auditorium)*
  • 11:15 a.m. Worship with Communion *
  • 5:00 p.m. Worship with Communion
