Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive to Benefit ALIVE! This Week in Alexandria

by Lee Hernly, Editor

By now, you should all have received a small post card in your mail notifying of the USPS annual food drive – Stamp Out Hunger – happening this coming Saturday, May 9th.

Food drives like this serve a very important purpose – one in five Alexandrian households live at or near the poverty line, and many of them have small children that go hungry.

In Alexandria, Virginia, our local postal letter carriers will pass on the food collected in this drive to the ALIVE! Food Program which feeds between 800 and 1,000 families a month in our area. Please help out by purchasing and donating to this drive.

All food is welcome, but the following are always in short supply:

  • Canned meat of any kind (tuna, chicken, beef stew, etc)
  • Peanut Butter
  • Cereal
  • Mac & Cheese
  • Hearty soups

So remember, fill a bag and place your food donations in a sturdy bag and leave it next to your mailbox prior to regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 9. Help our letter carriers deliver hope to those in need in Alexandria.
