The Braddock Metro Citizens’ Coalition (BMCC) and the City of Alexandria invite the public to an opening celebration for the new half-acre open space at 600 N. Henry St., next to the Wythe Street Post Office, on Saturday, May 9 from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The event will include an informal ribbon cutting with special guests, demonstrations of park amenities, as well as games and snacks. The BMCC is also hosting voter registration throughout the event.
The interim open space provides community gathering areas, seating, joggle boards, a bocce ball court, horseshoe pits and a Ping-Pong table. A Bikeshare station is located along North Henry St. and bike racks are available in the plaza along Fayette St.
Equipment for these activities will be on a “bring-your-own” basis until loaner equipment is available for use. When activated, lights along the plaza on Fayette St. will allow use until 10 p.m. The remainder of the park is open from dawn to dusk.
For further details, including background information and long-term goals for the space, visit the Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan Implementation project website.
