Komen Race

Thousands of people annually head to D.C. for the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure which is being held TOMORROW, Saturday May 9, 2015. The 5K race, which helps raise awareness about breast cancer and also helps fund research, begins and ends at the Washington Monument on the National Mall (see map above).

Because of this, expect major road closures in Washington D.C. starting at 5:00 AM with 15th Street between Constitution and Independence being closed starting at 2:00 AM. If you were thinking of driving into D.C. on Saturday, either take Metrorail or consider another route in the morning.

These roads will be closed from 5:00 AM through 11:00 AM:

  • 15th St NW between Independence and Ohio Dr. SW
  • Madison Dr. SW (between 14th and 15th St.)
  • Jefferson (between 14th and 15th St.)
  • Independence Ave. – west of 14th St. NW to the Lincoln Memorial
  • Westbound traffic on 395 will be directed to exit at 12th Street until 11 a.m.
  • Rock Creek Parkway exit eastbound from Memorial Bridge
  • 23rd St. SW

All roads are expected to reopen by 11:00 AM.
