Metrorail Track Work – Memorial Day Weekend

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the Memorial Day weekend of May 22-25 with track work and service adjustments on five of six rail lines beginning at 10:00 PM Friday and continuing through system closing on Monday.

Green Line trains will operate at regular intervals throughout the weekend; Red Line trains will operate every 20 minutes with additional service between 9AM-9PM each day. On Saturday and Sunday only, Orange, Silver, Blue and Yellow line trains will operate every 24 minutes. On Monday, Orange and SIlver line trains will operate every 15 minutes, while Blue and Yellow line trains will run every 18 minutes.

Red Line

Trains every 20 minutes

Red Line trains will operate as follows Friday through Monday:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: every 20 minutes
  • Between Grosvenor & NoMa-Gallaudet: every 10-12 minutes each day from 9AM-9PM only

Red Line trains will single track between Shady Grove and Twinbrook to allow for ballast, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride.

Orange Line

Trains every 24 minutes on Saturday & Sunday only

Orange Line trains will operate every 24 minutes Friday night, Saturday & Sunday. Regular service on Monday (trains every 15 min).

Orange Line trains will single track between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW to allow for platform rehabilitation and emergency call box installation for a safer ride.

Silver Line

Trains every 24 minutes on Saturday & Sunday only

Silver Line trains will operate every 24 minutes Friday night, Saturday & Sunday. Regular service on Monday (trains every 15 min).

Silver Line trains will share one track between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW to allow for platform rehabilitation and emergency call box installation for a safer ride.

Blue Line

Trains every 24 minutes on Saturday and Sunday; every 18 minutes on Monday

Blue Line trains will operate as follows from Friday night through Monday:

  • Friday night, Saturday & Sunday: every 24 minutes
  • Monday: every 18 minutes

Blue Line trains will single track between Smithsonian & Federal Center SW to allow for platform rehabilitation and emergency call box installation; and between National Airport & Braddock Road to allow for joint elimination, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride.

Yellow Line

Trains every 24 minutes on Saturday and Sunday; every 18 minutes on Monday

Yellow Line trains will operate as follows Friday through Monday:

  • Friday night, Saturday & Sunday: Huntington to Fort Totten every 24 minutes
  • Monday: Huntington to Mt. Vernon Square only, every 18 minutes. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq should use a Green Line train to complete your trip.

Yellow Line trains will single track between National Airport & Braddock Road to allow for joint elimination, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride.

Green Line

Regular weekend service.
