The City of Alexandria Planning Commission will hold its next regular monthly public hearing on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 7:00 PM in City Hall Council Chambers, located at 301 King Street in Alexandria, Virginia. Docket items can be found at this link.
One of the items up for consideration is the new Aldi Food Market, which is looking to replace the old Tres Hermanas restaurant at 4580 Duke Street in Alexandria.
ALDI is asking for a development special use permit and site plan with modifications to construct a grocery store including a special use permit request for a parking reduction that would allow them to have less parking on their property than required by current zoning law. ALDI is making the argument that their stores do not need as much parking because people are in and out of ALDI’s much more quickly than other grocery stores. By recommending approval of the project, City staff believes that the parking standards are out of date as well.
