Metrorail Track Work June 5-7, 2015

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of June 5-7 with track work and service adjustments on the Orange and Green lines beginning at 10:00 PM Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday. On the Red Line during daytime hours, five stations from Shady Grove to Grosvenor have service every 12 minutes, rather than every 6 minutes.

Silver, Blue and Yellow line trains will operate on their regular weekend schedules with Yellow Line trains running between Huntington & Mt. Vernon Square only.

Due to scheduled rebuilding, Orange Line trains will operate every 16 minutes, rather than every 12-15 minutes. Green Line trains will operate every 20 minutes.

Red Line

Minor service change affecting five stations

Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: regular weekend service (every 12-15 minutes)
  • Between Medical Center & Silver Spring: every 6-8 minutes from 9AM-9PM only

Grout pad rehabilitation, ballast, track fastener and insulator renewal for a safer ride will cause Red Line trains to share one track between Medical Center & Grosvenor.

Orange Line

Trains every 16 minutes

Orange Line trains will operate every 16 minutes throughout the weekend.

Orange Line trains will share one track between Cheverly and New Carrollton to allow for emergency call box installation, fastener, rail tie and insulator renewal for a safer ride.

Silver Line

Regular weekend service

Blue Line

Regular weekend service

Yellow Line

Regular weekend service

Yellow Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between Huntington & Mt. Vernon Square.Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square should use a Green Line train to complete their trip. Please allow additional travel time if traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square.

Green Line

Trains every 20 minutes

Green Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.

Green Line trains will share one track between Prince George’s Plaza & Greenbelt and between Naylor Road & Branch Avenue to allow for ballast work, fastener, rail tie & insulator renewal for a safer ride.
