Jaime Harvey from the Taylor Run Civic Association (TRCA) writes in about this year’s TRCA scholarship recipient at the Alexandria Scholarship Fund annual awards ceremony.

“On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, the Alexandria Scholarship Fund held its annual awards ceremony at T.C. Williams High School. This year, the TRCA Scholarship was awarded to Joey Nelson, a Taylor Run resident, seen above. Ms. Nelson is a delightfully energetic young lady who will study radiology at Northern Virginia Community College and aims to be an x-ray technician within the next two years. She graduated with a 3.5 GPA, participates in Urban Alliance, and interns at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In fact, in July, she will be traveling to Texas to take part in a leadership summit. The Urban Alliance’s website explains that these internships “will have a STEM focus which provides a real-world connection to the content now being emphasized in schools because of the increasing availability of careers in these sectors.” Ms. Nelson has also volunteered at the INOVA Alexandria Hospital and plays the violin. We wish Ms. Joey Nelson great things, both this summer and beyond, and are happy to contribute $1,000 to her education.

This scholarship is available because of TRCA’s dedication to cleaning up our parks and the monies offered by Alexandria City as part of the Adopt-a-Park program.”
