Screen on the Green, a perennial Washington, DC summer tradition, is one of my favorite things to do and returns in 2015. Nothing beats watching a movie with the U.S. Capitol glowing in the background (see photo above). As in years past, HBO is sponsoring one of the area’s best outdoor movie festivals. The movies play on the National Mall, in between 4th and 7th Streets in downtown Washington DC.
If you go, the best way of course is by Metro (I know, but, where are you going to park?). The closest stations to the festival are; Archives/Navy Memorial, Smithsonian and L’Enfant Plaza. NOTE: Keep in mind that the last train(s) on Metro are usually around 11:20ish on Monday night’s.
Films are on Monday nights beginning at sunset, usually around 8:30-9:00 PM. If you want a good location, it is BEST to get there early as folks start claiming spots as early as 5:00 PM. There are NO rain outs, except in extreme weather.
The movies in 2015 are:
- July 20 – North by Northwest (1959)
- July 27 – The Poseidon Adventure (1972) – one of my FAVORITE films.
- August 3 – Desk Set (1957)
- August 10 – Back to the Future (1985)
