Alexandria 266th Birthday Celebration
As readers know, Alexandria, Virginia recently celebrated its 266th birthday along with the 239th birthday of the USA on Saturday, July 11 in Oronoco Bay Park. ICYMI, you can view some excellent photos at this link of the fireworks from our Flickr Pool contributor Geoff Livingston. I have uploaded the photos I took of the event now to Flickr and to Facebook. See a panorama of the event above.

Did you enjoy the festivities? It seemed there were more people out in the park than usual. What did you think?

It was crazy crowded. In previous years, we would come right before the orchestra performance, and there’d be a lot of space to sit and for the kids to run around. This time, as we were approaching we saw many people turn around, especially those with kids. We stayed, but could not even step on the grass because literally every foot was sat on. People were stepping over each other. We had to stand on the asphalt the whole concert; and we couldn’t really even hear the music well. The music selection was kinda boring too. Overall, the fireworks were great, but waiting for them was really painful.

I’ve always loved Alexandria day, but I fear the event might have outgrown the venue.
