‘Trainwreck’ – A Short Review

I took my wife to see Amy Schumer’s new comedy ‘Trainwreck‘ this weekend at the AMC Hoffman Center 22 in Alexandria.

Amy Schumer, who wrote the movie, plays a magazine writer who, thanks to her Dad (played by Colin Quinn – who was EXCELLENT in the role), is afraid of commitment. As a result, she has a lot of one-nite stands with no intimacy involved until she meets a nerdy sports doctor (Bill Hader) she has to write about. She ends up liking the nerdy sports Doctor and has to face her fear of intimacy with the good guy.

The movie is full of witty one-liners, masterfully directed by Judd Apatow, and chock full of celebrity cameos. Two of the celebrities that got the biggest laughs were LeBron James and Jon Cena.

While Schumer has written a sharp, clever screenplay that weaves the serious with the not-so serious, the movie was a little long and had quite a bit of nudity. That’s something I could have done without but, the movie really made my wife and I laugh and that’s a good thing.
