Help ‘Fill the Boot’ this Labor Day Weekend in Alexandria, Virginia

AFD Fill the Boot
ftb-200x200-logoThe Alexandria Fire Department and IAFF Local 2141 have begun its annual “Fill the Boot” fundraising campaign in Alexandria, Virginia. The campaign will go through Monday, September 7th and will help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

The campaign will be a cooperative effort between on-duty AFD personnel, AVFD personnel, and off-duty volunteers, to include friends and family. Volunteers will be recruited from each of the labor group as well (IAFF, PBFFA, and APMA).

Muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other related diseases take away the ability to walk, move, smile, talk or even breathe.

Proceeds will go towards research and treatments and will also help support MDA’s programs, such as state-of-the-art support groups and clinics, according to their release.

Over the last five years the Alexandria Fire Department has raised over $125,000 for MDA. I spotted firefighters out on Slater’s Lane this morning and helped ‘fill the boot’. Will you?
