Flooding in Alexandria, Virginia April 30, 2014

A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect from the National Weather Service for the metropolitan Washington area, including the City of Alexandria, Virginia from 10:00 PM TONIGHT (Saturday, October 3) thru Sunday, October 4 at 4:00 PM.

A Coastal Flood Watch is issued when moderate to major coastal flooding is possible. Such flooding would potentially pose a serious risk to life and property. Coastal Flood Watches are issued for coastal areas along the Tidal Potomac River and coastal areas along the Chesapeake Bay.

EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* TIDAL ANOMALY…1.5 TO 2 FEET ABOVE NORMAL…INCREASING UP TO 3
FEET THIS EVENING.

* TIMING…SEVERAL HOURS AROUND HIGH TIDE THIS AFTERNOON.

* EXPECTED IMPACTS…MINOR TIDAL INUNDATION OF SHORELINE.
MODERATE INUNDATION POSSIBLE AT HIGH TIDE THIS EVENING AND
SUNDAY.

WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE FLOODING OF LOW AREAS ALONG THE SHORE.
