Metrorail Track Work Schedule October 10-11

Via WMATA, reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of October 9-11 with track work and service adjustments beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and continuing through system closing on Sunday.

  • Three stations will be closed this weekend: Vienna, Dunn Loring and West Falls Church.
  • Silver Line trains will replace Orange Line service this weekend with all Silver Line trains running between Wiehle-Reston East and New Carrollton every 8 minutes during daytime hours.
  • Riders traveling to/from Orange Line stations should board a Silver Line train to make their trip.
  • Riders traveling to/from Blue/Silver stations between Largo Town Center and Benning Road should use only Blue Line trains.
  • Red, Blue, Green and Yellow lines are on regular weekend schedules.

Early Opening Sunday morning for the for Army Ten-Miler

Metrorail will open two hours early, at 5 a.m., on Sunday, October 11, for riders traveling to the Army Ten-Miler. The closest Metro stop to the start of the race is Pentagon on the Blue and Yellow lines.

Columbus Day service information

On Columbus Day, Monday, October 12, Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate at Saturday service intervals (every 6 to 12 minutes during daytime hours). Off-peak fares will be in effect all day and parking will be free at all Metrorail parking facilities.

Orange Line

Buses replace trains at Vienna, Dunn Loring & West Falls Church on Saturday and Sunday; Silver Line trains replace Orange Line trains

  • Silver Line trains will replace Orange Line service this weekend with all Silver Line trains running between Wiehle-Reston East and New Carrollton every 8 minutes during daytime hours.
  • Riders traveling to/from Orange Line stations should board a Silver Line train to make their trip.

Stations Closed: Vienna, Dunn Loring and West Falls Church.

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday, buses will replace trains between Vienna and East Falls Church. Free shuttle buses will operate on two routes:

  • Local – between Vienna and East Falls Church making intermediate stops at Dunn Loring and West Falls Church. Please allow 12-15 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
  • Express – between Vienna and East Falls Church with no intermediate stops. Please allow up to 25 minutes travel time.

Last Train Times: The last eastbound train of the night will depart East Falls Church at its regular time. On Friday and Saturday nights, the last eastbound train departs East Falls Church at 2:35 a.m. On Sunday, the last eastbound train will depart East Falls Church at 11:35 p.m.

Work Performed: NTSB-recommended track circuit replacement, cable replacement, bridge inspection, joint elimination, and rail tie and fastener renewal.

Silver Line

Trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and New Carrollton

Trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and New Carrollton throughout the weekend. As a result, the following five stations will be served by Blue Line trains only: Largo Town Center, Morgan Boulevard, Addison Road, Capitol Heights and Benning Road.

During daytime hours, Silver Line trains will run every 8 minutes. Regular weekend intervals at other times.

If traveling to/from a station between Benning Road & Largo Town Center, use a Blue Line train (service every 12 minutes). Silver Line trains will travel via the Orange Line to/from New Carrollton this weekend.

Blue Line

Regular weekend service

Blue Line trains will operate at regular intervals throughout the weekend.

Additional Blue Line trains will operate on Sunday between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory from 6 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. and from 11:15 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. to accommodate participants in the Army Ten-Miler.

Yellow Line
