A reader writes in about the state of disrepair in the African American Heritage Park in Alexandria, Virginia.
We emailed the Carlyle Community Council (CCC), who maintain the property, about this and they tell us this repair is the City’s responsibility. The CCC tells us they have told the City about this repeatedly in the last few months.
We have emailed City staff about this and are awaiting a response.
Dear Red Brick Town,
I was just curious if you knew any information about the status of the repairs to the brick steps & multiple large handrails in the African American Park on Holland Lane. This interment damage, presumably due to old age, starts at the corner of Holland & Ballenger outside the pavilion-like structure and goes down to the gravel walking path. There have been orange cones & yellow tape to alert park goers of the damage for months with no signs of repair. I know a local daycare uses the park daily as an outdoor play spot and I am surprised the park is still like this as it seems like a big safety hazard.
Thanks for any insight…
