There could be some sleepless nights ahead for people who live within a few miles of the railroad tracks in the Del Ray and Potomac Yard neighborhoods of Alexandria, Virginia.
Anyone else hearing all the train horns tonight in Del Ray?@redbricktown @alexandria_va @AlexandriaVAGov #trainnoise #nosleep #awakenow

I have confirmed there was track work in the area last night and am awaiting word from CSX on how many days the track work will cover.
Normally, track work on the rails has to be done in our area between 8:30 PM and 4:30 AM when there are no Amtrak trains sharing the tracks.
The increased number of whistles you may be hearing this week at night involve not only CSX freight trains but maintenance trains, which under federal regulations, have to blow whistles at all railroad crossings or when they pass workers on the tracks.
