Thanksgiving in Alexandria

Old Town Alexandria, Virginia does not disappoint when it comes to yummy Thanksgiving dinner options and exciting holiday fun.

If you’re like me and the thought of hosting Thanksgiving dinner is enough to send you in to a [turkey] tail spin, then you’ll be happy to know that Old Town does not disappoint when it comes to yummy dinner options and exciting holiday fun.

We’re going to come out of the gate strong with one of the area’s best restaurants and a personal favorite: Brabo. Take a look at their Thanksgiving menu and you’ll be instantly convinced (and drooling). Options include cider braised pork belly and pumpkin crème brulee – need I say more? Their holiday menu is $75/person and reservations are necessary.

While it’s still relatively new to King Street, Jackson 20 has quickly become an Old Town staple and has a reputation for good food and warm ambiance. Their Thanksgiving menu will make it a crowd pleaser for your holiday feast with the choice of a three-course pre-fixe menu, or a family-style dinner buffet that runs from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm (and is kid friendly). Another option is Thanksgiving dinner to-go! Let Chef Brian do the cooking for you and bring it home to share with friends and family. Check out their website for instructions on ordering Thanksgiving dinner to-go.

The “boutique emporium of epicurean delight” known as Society Fair is offering Thanksgiving to-go options that are sure to be a hit since restaurateurs Cathal and Meshelle Armstrong can do no wrong in my book.

So you’ve had your turkey and cranberry sauce and now you’re looking to show out of town guests a good time with a fun night out? Head to Union Street Pub Friday night where you’ll find a DJ, dancing, and drinks with no cover charge. Bayou Room is the place to go if you’re ready to dance until 2:00 am either Friday or Saturday night (or both nights, if you’ve got it in you!).

Perhaps your squad is low key, in which case you might want to check out the exclusive, new Captain Gergory’s located behind the secret door in Sugar Shack (don’t forget to text (571) 281-0059 to reserve a table). Another option for the relaxed, yet sophisticated crowd looking for delicious cocktails is Bar PX (this is also a reservation only establishment. And don’t forget to dress to impress).

As soon as Thanksgiving is under wraps, you know what that means… Christmas celebrations begin! Friday at 6:00 pm the City of Alexandria Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at Market Square, so come on out and get your holiday cheer on.

If you’re feeling patriotic and festive, then Mount Vernon will do the trick. Enjoy gorgeous holiday décor, historical chocolate making demonstrations, 18th-century dancing, and candlelight tours of the mansion.

However you choose to spend your holiday, Alexandria is sure to have something for everyone! Happy Thanksgiving!
