Why was Alexandria’s ‘Charlie Brown’ Christmas Tree Removed?

This is an update to this post.

After tracking the missing tree for the last few days, multiple sources led me to the City Arborist.

After confirming this with Councilman John Chapman, I can confirm to you that the City of Alexandria received multiple complaints about the small evergreen tree growing in the Duke Street median by the ramp to Landmark Mall.

As a result of the complaints, the City Arborist determined the tree was damaged. As a result of this damage, the City Arborist determined that the tree interfered with the roadway, and the City Arborist said the tree needed removal and directed City staff to do so. I don’t know about you but, if you look at the photo above, it does not appear to have much damage to it.

So, now you know. I don’t know about you but, this makes me very sad and angry at the same time. Also, I don’t know about you but, may a pox fall on the house(s) of those who complained about the little tree.

Hopefully, the City can work something out where they can plant a similar tree nearby. Or, maybe another anonymous decorator will take up the cause with another tree somewhere else in the City.

We’ll give Lindsay the final word on this beloved tree in the West End…

In that case who can i talk to about the landmark mall? It’s interfering with my property value. Maybe someone will remove that eyesore next 🙂

The city arborist should spend less time worrying about a little tree and more time reigning in the overgrowth across the street that blocks cars’ views of the crosswalk that crosses the ramp to Van Dorn Street. Just saying.

At this point I really want to stay out of politics, but I have to state that this is simply another clear cut case of our city government being completely reactive to the foolish complaints of a few. Rather than proactively addressing real issues, especially real tree issues, the city and its arborist act again with ADHD.

Can’t speak to it being a danger to those driving. I guess everything is a distraction in your environment when you drive?! As for the tree being diseased…..no way. With over 50 years of experience I feel this is an answer to defuse the situation. Merry Christmas city hall
