Duke Street CLOSED for Water Main Break Christmas Eve

Water Main Break

Water main break affecting businesses in the Alexandria Commons Shopping Center area

UPDATE (11:30 AM): Water main has been REPAIRED.

Duke Street in Alexandria is CLOSED in both directions this morning in the 3100 block of Duke Street (between S. Quaker Lane and Sweeley Street), near the Alexandria Commons shopping center due to a water main break. Virginia American Water estimates eight (8) hours for repair.

Drivers are STRONGLY encouraged to avoid the area today. If you need to travel in this area allow for quite a bit of extra time to travel.

There is a detour around the break via Colvin Street. Drivers headed westbound on Duke Street should turn left onto Roth Street; those headed eastbound should turn right onto S. Quaker Lane.

For questions about your water service, please call Virginia American Water at 800-452-6863.
