Nashville Star Charles Esten Helps Out Maury Schoolyard Initiative

Maury Elementary School got a boost this week from an alum who just happens to be a celebrity.

Charles “Chip” Esten, who plays Deacon Claybourne on the hit ABC show “Nashville,” returned to Alexandria, Virginia this week to meet and greet friends and members of the community who support the Maury Schoolyard Initiative at Port City Brewing.

Esten played a few songs for those in attendance but, mainly played guest bartender and greeted the school supporters, family, friends and fans of “Nashville” at Tuesday’s fundraiser event.

Esten, who grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, went to Maury and attended T.C. Williams High School where he graduated in 1983. At the event, I got to speak with Chip for a few minutes on acting, music, and growing up in Alexandria, Virginia. Just hit play above.

The Maury Schoolyard Initiative is still seeking funds for the new schoolyard (approx. $15,000 is still needed), which should start construction in the spring of 2016. You can donate at this link. I have donated to this important project and hope you can too.

You can view photos from the event at this link.
