Alexandria Area Ends 2015 With Warmest December on Record

December 2015 was the warmest on record according to NWS

First Night Alexandria revelers cramming down at the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia to watch the fireworks Thursday evening didn’t have to bundle up quite as tight as in previous years thanks to above-average temperatures that closed out Northern Virginia’s warmest December on record, the National Weather Service says.

AT REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT…WASHINGTON DC…THE AVERAGE MONTHLY
TEMPERATURE OF 51.2 DEGREES FOR DECEMBER 2015 WAS THE WARMEST
DECEMBER ON RECORD. IT BREAKS THE PREVIOUS AVERAGE MONTHLY DECEMBER
RECORD OF 45.6 DEGREES SET IN DECEMBERS OF 1889 AND 1984.

ADDITIONALLY…THE DECEMBER 2015 AVERAGE MONTHLY MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE
OF 58.8 DEGREES IN WASHINGTON DC BREAKS THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 54.9
DEGREES FROM DECEMBER 1889.

AND THE DECEMBER 2015 AVERAGE MONTHLY MIMIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 43.5
DEGREES BREAKS THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 38.4 DEGREES FROM DECEMBER
2012.
