UPDATE: They are NOT closing after all.
Today has been a really bad news day for retail in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.
Multiple sources have confirmed that Old Town Coffee Tea & Spice, located at 215 S. Union Street in Alexandria, Virginia lost their lease as the lease was recently doubled and the owners couldn’t make it work.
The owner contacted me with this statement:
“I am sad to say that the lease is indeed going to be up in February. Frank is going to be retiring and the store is currently scheduled to be closing. We have no information on any continuation of the store elsewhere at this time and it is looking as though Old Town Coffee, Tea & Spice will no longer be an operating business.”
The longtime coffee and tea shop has over 250 different types of tea, and over 80 different types of coffee.
The shop posted this on Facebook after our inquiry
It is with no small amount of sadness that we announce Old Coffee, Tea & Spice’s closing this February.
We would like to thank the community and friends near and far for so many years of patronage and memories.
There were obnoxious political discussions, pictures and postcards of traveling adventures, watching families grow, and friends come and go.
I cannot speak for Frank, though I am sure he would agree, but I myself, Zachary Johns(the guy with the beard), would like to say that it has been a pleasure having the opportunity to work at a place so well loved in the hearts of it’s patrons.
There’s little else that can be said without resulting in unnecessarily long stories or uncontrollable blubbering.
Thank you, again.
-D. Zachary Johns
