Al’s Steakhouse to Reopen under New Ownership as Early as Next Week
Soon, the smell of delicious cheesesteaks from Al’s Steakhouse will be flowing again on Mount Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia.
As John ‘Big Al’ Severson used to say “cook your onions first, then the mayo and the provolone are heated together on the grill”.
As we told you, there has been much speculation of the future of Al’s. This past week, there has been much uncertainty over whether Al’s Steakhouse would re-open after a sign was posted that the joint was ‘closed indefinitely’ and the website was shuttered with no notice given.
We can confirm to you, after hearing from multiple sources in the know, that the long-time Del Ray institution will be re-opening under new ownership as early as Monday, January 11. I am told most of the staff is returning.
John’s son Bo Severson has been looking to sell the joint after the passing of his Dad in August 2014. The amount of the sale has not been disclosed.
We have heard rumors that Jeff Yates, who recently purchased the Table Talk restaurant and who’s looking to open a Pizza Palace in Taylor Run, has purchased the joint from Bo. This is UNCONFIRMED. As we stated in the previous post, Mr. Yates had previously attempted to purchase the joint from John Severson while he was still alive.
We have reached out to Mr. Yates on this as well as to sources in the know to confirm this. As soon as we hear more, we’ll update the post.
This continues to be a developing story…
