Sewer work to take approximately two months

The 100 block of North Payne Street in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia is being closed daily due to planned combined sewer work (CSO).

The reason for the closure is that constructing a Diversion Chamber and CSO Screen. A Diversion Chamber intercepts street sewage and redirects it to an interceptor system. A CSO Screen is used to prevent the overflow of untreated sewage into receiving waters.

You can learn more about the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) work at this link.

This is site 5 and the last site of the sewer separation project in this area. The City expects this project to be completed in about two (2) months.
