Bradlee Shoe Repair closes after 50 years in business

While we have recently focused on Bradlee Barber Shop, another longtime business in Bradlee Shopping Center has closed as the owner has decided to retire. The Bradlee Shoe Repair owner, Joe Johnson, has decided to retire.

The note from owner Joe Johnson says “We have closed. Thank you for over 50 years of patronage and friendship.”

You can read the rest at the photo above.  Sources say Joe’s daughter may reopen the shop at the Little Dutch Girl dry cleaners, located at 4474 King Street. We’ll keep an eye on this.

Joe’s note is very sad. It appears he is retiring because of a serious health problem. I wish him the best. My family has been taking our shoes and purses to him for many years and his skill, great conversation, and delightfully messy shop will be greatly missed. (Somehow he always managed to find my shoes in the many piles awaiting pickup.)
