FBI Seeks ‘Ball Cap Bandit’ in Northern Virginia

The ‘Ball Cap Bandit’ has struck again in the Northern Virginia Area. The suspect has been dubbed as such by authorities as he wear sports teams caps when committing bank robberies in our area.

After striking in multiple Alexandria, Virginia locations, on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at approximately 3:48 p.m., the ‘Ball Cap Bandit’ robbed the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1000 West Broad Street in Falls Church, Virginia. Like the previous robberies, the subject entered the bank, approached the victim teller, and passed a note demanding money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he fled the bank on foot.

This week’s robbery comes after the suspect struck in the Fairlington neighborhood of Alexandria and in Del Ray.

On Thursday, April 28, 2016, at approximately 11:50 a.m., the same individual robbed the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1711 Fern Street in Alexandria, Virginia. The subject entered the bank, approached the victim teller, and passed a note demanding money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he fled the bank on foot.

On Monday, April 18, 2016, at approximately 10:06 a.m., the same suspect robbed the SunTrust Bank located at 2809 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia. The unknown individual entered the bank, passed a note to the teller and demanded money. No weapon was displayed. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the subject then fled the bank on foot.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of this bank robber.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office, Alexandria Virginia Police Department, and City of Falls Church Police Department are investigating these series of bank robberies and request that anyone with information call the FBI at 202-278-2000, Alexandria Police Department non-emergency number at 703-746-4444, or the City of Falls Church Police Department at 703-241-5053.
