Vola’s Dockside Grill named for former Alexandria, Virginia City Manager
Hearing that there’s a new restaurant concept forthcoming from Alexandria Restaurant Partners, the group behind Virtue Feed & Grain, the soon-to-reopen Majestic Cafe and recently opened Lena’s Woof-Fired Pizza + Tap, called Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge, which we hear is expected to open five (5) weeks from now in late June, early July on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The restaurant will be located at 7 King Street at the Torpedo Factory Art Center building.
The space was formerly occupied by the Waterfront Market which closed it’s doors on November 10, 2015. The restaurant group is undertaking a HUGE $2 million-plus renovation which involves expansion of the space to include a takeover of the former next door jewelry store as well. The renovation also involves the installation of an exhaust hood to allow a full kitchen and a reconfiguration of the space.
We hear Vola’s is named for former Alexandria City Manager Vola Lawson. Ms. Lawson was named a Living Legend of Alexandria in 2007 and was inducted into the Virginia Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993.
The restaurant will serve hi quality seafood and will feature a raw bar. Have heard few details on The Hi-Tide Lounge. The lounge will be in the area formerly occupied by Khalsa Jewelers (King Street & Union Street intersection) with the idea of drawing people into the lounge and restaurant.
Here are some more photos…
As you can see, the space is still being framed.
A shot from the jewelers looking down the hall from the location of the former Khalsa Jewelers. As you can see, this will be a fairly big new restaurant.
