People Work Hard in Virginia

Working hard in America is as American as apple pie and there are some cities in Virginia like Alexandria that are working harder than others, according to a new report from career advice website Zippia.

According to the report, Zippia looked at factors such as average hours worked, average commute time, workers per household (employed labor force divided by the number of households), labor force participation rate and adults with a college degree.

Data was obtained from the latest version of the American Community Survey and the U.S. Census Bureau’s data from 2009-2014.

A total of 62 places in Virginia were ranked, with a ranking of 1 being the best and 62 the least. These rankings were then averaged to create what the website called a “hardworking index.”

The hardest working city in Virginia was Purcellville while Alexandria came in at number 7.

The top ten:

  1. Purcellville
  2. Vienna
  3. Herndon
  4. Falls Church
  5. Leesburg
  6. Manassas Park
  7. Alexandria
  8. Fairfax
  9. Bridgewater
  10. Christiansburg
