UPDATE (7:36 PM): ACPS responded with this comment on social media.

For the second time in two years, air conditioning in classrooms at an Alexandria City Public School (ACPS) has gone out during SOL testing. Last year, the issue was a Hammond Middle School, this year it is at James K. Polk Elementary School.

We’re hearing from parents and teachers that the 4th grade area and new wing of the school has no air conditioning and SOLS are supposed to happen tomorrow.

Sources tell us a 4th grade classroom in the building was 88 degrees in the A.M. and by 4:00 pm, temperatures were as high as 91 degrees.

We have reached out to ACPS on this and will update with any comment received.

Are you a parent of a fourth grader at Polk, or a teacher? What are your thoughts on this?

TC King Street doesn’t have working air either today (or network for that matter), but it’s nothing new.
