Track Work this weekend affecting three of six Lines

Via WMATA, reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of August 26-28 with track work and service adjustments on three lines.

Trains will operate as follows:

  • Orange, Silver and Green line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals
  • Yellow Line trains will operate regular weekend intervals except Sunday until 2PM (see below)
  • Red Line trains will operate every 8-16 minutes
  • Blue Line trains will operate regular weekend intervals between Van Dorn Street and Largo Town Center
  • Free shuttle buses replace Blue Line trains between Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street

Red Line

Trains every 16 minutes | 7AM Saturday through closing Sunday

Single tracking between Forest Glen and Glenmont to allow for radio cable installation.

Red Line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont every 16 minutes
  • Between Shady Grove & Silver Spring every 8-10 minutes from 9AM to 9PM

Orange Line

Regular weekend service

Regular weekend service

Blue Line

Buses replace trains at Franconia-Springfield station only | 7AM Saturday through closing Sunday

Throughout the weekend, Blue Line service will operate at regular weekend intervals between Van Dorn Street & Largo Town Center stations. On Saturday and Sunday, no trains will run between Franconia-Springfield & Van Dorn Street to allow for switch maintenance. Free shuttle buses will operate between Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street.

Yellow Line

Regular weekend service Saturday; Huntington to National Airport only, Sunday 7AM until 2PM.

On Sunday, August 28, Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport only from opening until approximately 2:00 p.m. to accommodate an emergency response drill on the Yellow Line bridge between L’Enfant Plaza and Pentagon stations. During this time, Blue and Green line trains will not be affected. Customers traveling to/from National Airport and Washington DC should use Blue Line trains from L’Enfant Plaza or Metro Center.
