Register for Fall Crew!
Have you seen the PBS American Experience program on the young men from the University of Washington who took the rowing world and America by storm when they captured the gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin? Check it out at the PBS web site.
What about the news from Rio! The U.S. Women’s Eight rowing team captured the gold and now has won 11 straight world and Olympic titles! See the story about the team in Time.
Or how about the video interview of Ireland’s O’Donovan Brothers, who won Ireland’s first ever Olympic rowing medal when they captured the silver on Friday in the lightweight men’s double sculls at Rio. These guys are da bomb! And they got to put on the “podium pants!” You have to watch their viral interview.
Doesn’t this make you want to be a champion, too?
Well, you are in luck! The champion-producing Dee Campbell Boathouse in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia will host the fall Novice Rowers Program sponsored by the Alexandria Crew Boosters (ACB). This program is for future Olympians and those who have completed summer crew and/or fall crew program(s). The Novice Program is open to students from any school district in 7th grade and above who would like to learn to row or sharpen their skills.
Rowers may register for one of two sections and will practice either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 to 6:15. Rowers also may sign up for both sections for a more in-depth learning experience and water time. The Program runs from September 12 to October 27.
Be a champion. It starts here.
