UPDATE (9:35 AM 9/1)): Heard back from Guitar center on the opening time frame. Added below.
Music lovers in Alexandria, Virginia will soon have a new place to hang out in the area as a new Guitar Center location is opening in the Alexandria Commons Shopping Center. Guitar Center is the world’s largest retailer of guitars, amplifiers, drums, keyboards, recording, live sound, DJ, and lighting equipment. With more than 270 stores across the U.S. and one of the top direct sales websites in the industry, Guitar Center has helped people make music for more than 50 years.
Sources tell us Guitar Center has signed a lease with JBG Retail for the 23,000+ square foot location. While work is underway at the new location, it is unclear on the time frame for opening. We have reached out to Guitar Center and JBG Retail on the time frame.
I heard back from Guitar center on the time frame for opening. A spokeswoman tells us Guitar Center is scheduled to open in Alexandria in January of 2017.
The new Guitar Center will be replacing the long closed Staples in the upper level of the shopping center near the Virginia ABC store, AT&T, Panera Bread, the UPS Store, and more. This would make it the fifth store in the immediate Washington, D.C. area for Guitar Center – joining locations in Falls Church, Fairfax, Rockville, and the soon-to-open Silver Spring location.
