Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe visited the International Academy at T. C. Williams High School yesterday to help launch the 2016-2017 school year. The visit was an effort to showcase the International Academy and the collaborative learning environment it fosters. (More photos below…)
Alexandria City Public Schools opened the International Academy at T.C. Williams High School in 2012 and the Academy follows the standards set by the Internationals Network for Public Schools.
The International Academy is built on a five-principal model emphasizing heterogeneity and collaboration, experiential learning, language and content integration, localized autonomy and responsibility, and one learning model for all.
The main goal of the program is to challenge students academically while increasing English proficiency, fulfilling emotional and social needs, ensuring access to quality education and preparing those students for high school, college and careers in our society. This particular model is key for integrating language development and academic content.
The Governor arrived yesterday morning by helicopter, landing at Chinquapin Park right near to the school.
